Background

Large group of camels

I've lived in the United Arab Emirates for the past ten years, eight of them married to my Moroccan husband. We have a boy named Abdur-Rahman and a cat named Raja. As soon as school resumes, I will use the school's camera to take a picture of our cat. He is a big gray tabby with a sweet disposition.

My mom lives in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This is where I grew up. In Augusta, Georgia, you will find my oldest brother, Todd. He works for the Veterans' Administration (VA) in Blind Rehabilitation. My other brother, David, lives in Richmond, Kentucky with his wife and two children. He is an electrical engineer.

King Hassan II Mosque in CasablancaI've traveled a bit around the world, from places as diverse as India, Australia, and Singapore, but once I got married, travel to Morocco became a regular part of my vacation--and I love it! With seven years of French, you would think that I could do a better job communicating. :--) At least I try!

As you can see in the above Education section, I have been working on a Master's in Online Teaching and Learning. You are going to experience some of what I learned. Be prepared!

Quirks

Group of rats picture

Quirks--everybody has them and I'm no different! If you couldn't tell, my website has a "rat/rodent" theme. That is because I LOVE rats. They rock! Unfortunately, I haven't found any rats that I have "bonded" with in the UAE.

Another quirk is my love of the color purple, hence, the background and colors of my pages. My mom and I have a rivalry about this (she can't stand purple) that extends back to when I was in first grade and I was buying a pair of gym shoes. They had purple ones, but my mom made me get yellow. I was so upset. To this day, I will buy purple things. She laughs and laughs. Because she dislikes the "triteness" of "Have a Nice Day!" and smiley faces, I have this one for her.

My classroom is very cold. This is in part to enforce the dress code, but also, that is the way that I like it. If you get cold easily, bring a warm sweater or jacket. You may leave them in my room if you wish.

I hate the word, "stupid". Please don't use it in my classroom. That is not a quirk, really, just good taste.

I wonder if I had asked my students from last year to make a list of Mrs. T's quirks, would it have filled a web page? Most likely, yes.

This is one of my favorite websites:  Calvin and Hobbes
